Sasha Cohen (Ice Skater)
BioGraphy
SASHA COHEN has turned her Olympic Silver medal into a golden journey that includes acting, TV guest star, and spokesperson for product endorsements. And she also is the headliner for Smucker's Stars On Ice, thrilling audiences across the country and around the world.
The 2005-2006 competitive season was a standout year for Sasha. She won the Olympic Silver medal, her first U.S. National Championship and, at the end of a long, tiring season, captured the Bronze medal at the World Championships.
Sasha has placed among the top 3 in 20 consecutive competitions since 2003. Sasha now owns three World medals – two silvers and one bronze. In addition she has an Olympic silver medal, one U.S. title and four U.S. silver medals.
While the skating success helped Sasha catch the eye of corporate America and producers, her model-like appearance and polished public presentation make her one of the most marketable and desirable celebrity athletes in the world.
Sasha is among the top 10 female athletes in all sports in the U.S., according to a Harris Poll conducted online by Harris Interactive.
Sasha was one of the busiest athletes following the Olympics. She was on national TV shows, worked the Oscars for "Inside Edition" and also attended all the pre and post Oscar parties. In fact, a national newspaper columnist featured Sasha as one of the most elegantly dressed women at the Oscars.
Sasha has been busy taking acting lessons for her first movie role, an independent film titled ‘Moondance Alexander”. She has also appeared in the popular NBC hit “Vegas”, and was featured in an episode of “CSI: NY”.
Sasha also has appeared in several commercials and advertisements. She joined an elite group of celebrities and athletes in her own “Got Milk?” ad campaign. Sasha also was featured in Simply Saline ads, a nasal spray that helps relieve irritable symptoms caused by colds, allergies, low humidity and air travel. Citizen featured Sasha in their Eco-Drive watch ads.
Sasha's legions of fans range from children to young adults and older. One family named their child after Sasha, fans of all ages flock to shows Sasha appears in and a wide range of American military servicemen and women have saluted Sasha for her "never give up" attitude.
Sasha has astonished her peers and former Hall of Fame skaters with her mesmerizing style of skating. To many it is likened to a theater performance.
Sasha wowed Peggy Fleming, former Olympic gold medalist after her "Romeo and Juliet" free skate Olympic performance that earned her the silver medal. "Sasha is Juliet," said Fleming as Sasha entertained the crowd at Turin, Italy and on worldwide TV. "Sasha is absolutely exquisite as a skater," Fleming said at the 2006 World Championships in Calgary, Canada.
Sasha is as much an ambassador for her charities as she is for her sport. She is active in promoting her charities and quietly embraces causes that impact on youth and families.
Recognizing that young people are influenced by what they see in public, Sasha thrives on being a role model. Her autobiography “Fire On Ice”, published by HarperCollins, is a testament to Sasha’s disciplined lifestyle and unconditional family support.
The book sold out of its hardback printing and a soft cover was in high demand well before its release date.
Sasha resides in Southern California. She is more than a one-dimensional athlete. Sasha has modeled in national and international fashion magazines. Most magazines featuring world newsmakers and athletes have included Sasha.
World-renowned photographer Mario Sorrenti, who spotted Sasha skating at a rink in New York City, photographed her for the high-fashion French V magazine. Sasha has also been featured in Seventeen magazine with a seven-page layout, and Vogue.
Sasha has a whimsical side that was brought out during her TV appearances after the Olympics. And after winning the U.S. National Championship in January Sasha said of the gold medal: "This color is really nice!"
Sasha’s life has been neatly packaged into that rare diamond that has become a treasure on and off the ice.
